As reported by Techzine, Nebul, the Dutch AI cloud provider that originates from Leiden, is expanding into Belgium. The company positions itself as a sovereign AI provider whose computing power stays fully under European law.

    The build

The GPUs will sit in Nvidia GB300 NVL72 systems, rack-scale machines that operate as a single unit. Lenovo supplies the servers, while Datacenter United provides power, connectivity and the liquid cooling the systems need.

Procurement of the hardware has started. Nebul has not yet shared when the cluster will actually go live, according to Techzine.

    Why Machelen

Until now Nebul has relied on Dutch data centre partners such as Eurofiber, NorthC and Switch Datacenters. The Machelen campus is ISO certified, sits close to the Brussels internet exchange and already runs business-critical workloads for European institutions. It also offers a low-latency link to the Netherlands, where the rest of Nebul's capacity is located.

Chief executive Arnold Juffer said customers are not in short supply: "Demand is there, and it is bigger than the capacity Europe is building today" (translated from Dutch).

    Inference focus and partners

Earlier this year Techzine described how Nebul built its AI factory with NetApp as the storage layer, with an emphasis on private AI inference rather than model training. The company has also put a Supermicro HGX B200 SuperCluster into use.

Last week Nebul announced a partnership with DDN, which joins existing storage partners NetApp and VAST Data. DDN Infinia makes the KV cache available across the whole GPU fleet. According to both companies, this delivers up to five times faster token responses and almost 60% lower costs for reloading context.

    What comes next

Machelen is one of several growth locations. Nebul says additional European regions and capacity are already in preparation.
