A Dutch court has declared Nina.Care bankrupt after a petition by a former employee owed several tens of thousands of euros, shortly after the company was ordered to pay €378,000 to pension fund PFZW.

According to Quote, the bankruptcy of Nina.Care was pronounced by the court the day before its report of 28 October. Quote describes Nina.Care, the company of Jasmijn and Lyla Kok, as the largest au pair agency in the Netherlands.

    How the bankruptcy came about

The trustee (curator) told Quote that the petition was filed by a former employee who was still owed several tens of thousands of euros. Nina.Care tried to reach a settlement with her, but according to the trustee that attempt failed.

There are several creditors, the trustee said, though he does not yet know exactly how many. Nina.Care itself said there are also customers who are due refunds.

    The pension bill

The company was recently ordered by a court to pay premiums it owed to pension fund PFZW, an amount of €378,000. The trustee told Quote it is unclear how that will now be settled, adding that it has "indeed not become easier" (translated from Dutch).

    Investors and the restart

Nina.Care told Quote it is working on a restart (doorstart). In the same statement it said its investors will be taken along to the new BV, in consultation with them. The trustee could not yet confirm the restart and said he is waiting for more information from the company before he can draw up a plan.

According to Nina.Care, its operations have been placed with Juno.Care, which Jasmijn and Lyla Kok set up in 2025. Last year the founders told MT/Sprout that Juno.Care belongs to the same group and sits under Nina.Care.

    Background

In its early days Nina.Care won over investors, including avocado entrepreneur Shawn Harris, through the television programme Dragon's Den. The company was not without controversy: Quote notes that Nieuwsuur reported last year that the immigration service IND had fined the agency several times over abuses. Because of its legal problems, the company has since last year focused on au pairs from within the European Union.

    What comes next

For now the restart has not been confirmed by the trustee, who is still waiting on information from the company.
